Connect Camp for Adults with Dementia

Ministry of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church

1802 Bethel Road, Weatherford, Texas 76086 (817) 596-9585

Ministry Mission Statement

  • To offer respite for care-givers
  • To provide a safe and uplifting environment assisting with a variety of exercises and social interaction for those with a failing sense of their surroundings and themselves

Program

Each camp day is designed to inspire joy and interaction! Physical prowess is encouraged through yoga postures and breathing techniques with activities that draw on the ‘theme of the day’. Memory games, music, sharing stories, drawing or writing exercises are all important memory and sensory stimulation that often yield lots of laughs.

We often engage special guests such as: Weatherford Bird Center, Deacon Carlos Frias from St. Stephen, Parker County Extension Agent, Kathy Smith, the McCluskey's with pet rabbits, Charles and Beve Loggins ballroom dancing exhibition, Cecilia Villaneuva's 'scrapping' activities, the Klassy Kloggers tap performance and other very special guests.

Our focus is to provide activities that stimulate:

Motor Skills

Sensory Perception

Cognitive Ability

Interpersonal Skills

...but more important, find moments of joy to relax and restore. We cannot give them their life back but we can give them experiences that can create a sense of ease and familiarity.

Details

Camp is available to all registered 'campers'. Care-givers must be available by phone during each camp session. Campers are assigned 'buddies' for personal care and support. Campers should have a meal before attending though festive snacks are often the highlight. Please make arrangements for pick up no later than the program end.

Currently, Connect Camp is donation-based. We meet the first and third Thursday of each month from 12:30 to 2:30 pm in the clubhouse behind the church. Registration is required and the form can be download here.
